Wire Cloche

I've spotted some wire cloches lately and have become intrigued. Always up for a challenge, I thought I'd try to make one.

Materials
hardware cloth (hardware store)
wire
washer
wooden turnings (craft store)
dry wall screw
black spray paint

Tools
small metal bowl
strong scissors or wire cutters
drill
screw driver
hot glue gun

Cut the hardware cloth so it wraps loosely around the metal bowl. Make it any length you like. It's best to take off all the sharp little protruding wires. Wrap it into a cylinder and sew the two long ends together with a thin piece of wire.

Fold the hardware cloth over the metal bowl. Using hands and any tools necessary (hammers and mallets come to mind), form the domed end. Place your hand into the bowl and roll it on a hard surface to smooth and compress the pleats.
Drill pilot holes in the middle of your wooden turning(s). Place a washer inside the cloche and thread the screw through the washer and into the turning(s) on the top, sandwiching the hardware cloth between the washer and the turnings.
Use hot glue to finish the base and seal any sharp ends.

Spray it black. Place a treasure inside and smile modestly when everyone admires your handiwork.

  1. "Great submit & Fantastic weblog! I'd definitely love to begin a blog too but I have no clue where to begin. I possess the ability to do it (not that challenging around the technical portion) but I seriously feel like I am too lazy to publish regularly. That is the problem, if you start you have to go all the way. However blogs like yours inspire me to have a go at it. "
